Apologies for the lack of updates lately, race season is in full swing and life is hectic! Going all the way back to the May long weekend the well known “Squealin’ Pig Hare Scrambles” race went off without a hitch. Just as the sun was setting Saturday night, I lined up on L.R.F.C with my borrowed head lamp on the intermediate line for the start of what I was expecting to be a long and tiring night race! The start and majority of the first lap went smooth and uneventful, up until about ¾ of the way through the course. My bike’s headlight died, and despite my best efforts I couldn’t get it working again. It wasn’t completely dark yet, so I decided to do as many laps as I could before I was unable to see. I finished 2 laps barely, and then waited for my time to run out. It was disappointing to see my fellow competitors racing by while I waited in the dark, but I suppose that’s just how racing goes at times! The next day I lined up once again on the intermediate line for the day race. Quite a few intermediates showed for the race and the starting line seemed to go on forever! I didn’t get the greatest start, but started picking people off through the grass track right off the line and made my way into the top 5 before we headed for the endurocross track and the deep woods trails. The race went really well and with a stacked class and many battles back and forth I ended up finishing in a respectable 5th place. 5th wasn’t what I was hoping for, I was aiming towards a podium finish, but just the same I was glad to come away with a decent finish and a bike and body that were still in one piece!

The weather warnings started coming in for Orofino, Idaho suitably on Friday the 13th, 12:00 noon Pacific Standard Time. The most impressive warning was the tornado watch for the area; mental images of racers being plucked from the endurocross track by funnel clouds flooded my mind. The secondary warnings included a heavy rainfall warning matched with extremely strong winds. With this in mind, we decided that it was only appropriate to load up Little Red Forest Creature (L.R.F.C.), my Gas ... Continue reading...

The first race of the season was the Roots of Doom on Vancouver Island. The highly competitive intermediate class had dozens of racers set to do battle over a 3 hour span in hopes of scoring one of Jarrett May's custom trophies and prize money. Jarrett put on one hell of a race and it was obvious after the first lap that a lot of time had gone into making the race such a success! This was my first race on the new Gas Gas 250 which I absolutely fell in love with a couple weeks earlier when ... Continue reading...

Last weekend we made a trip down to Vancouver Island to deliver Little Orange Forest Creature to it's new owner, and to meet up with Dave of Gas Gas Pacific to pick up my new Gas Gas 250 EC. I have a tendency to get attached to my motorcycles, so saying good bye to LOFC was a little sad. I remember being around 6 or 7 years old and I had to say goodbye to my PW50 after out-growing it, in order to switch to a PW80. I was upset that I had to say bye to my first ever motorcycle, so my Dad tol... Continue reading...

You'd be surprised how hard it is to find an internet connection for decent amount of time when you live out of camper on your way back from the Six Days! We are currently in Vegas, still making our way home from the race, awaiting a new clutch for the truck! I plan to put together a little story outlining the most entertaining aspects of my very first six days, and until I can do that, I hope a short update on here will be enough to keep Maa back home in Cherryville happy! Besides, I know... Continue reading...

We arrived at the ISDE in Morelia Mexico on the 25th of October after a long drive down from B.C. The drive down was fairly uneventful but not complete without the standard issues such as being stranded for 4 hours roadside with truck problems and getting lost in Mexican cities. You'd be surprised how hard it is to call for help or get directions when no one speaks english! We made it in one piece however and got settled into our rental condo which is beautiful! Apparently the Mexican Pre... Continue reading...

A part of putting off writing about my last two races is kind of because I don't really want to talk about them! I'll start with the Zofka Ridge Cross Country in Hope BC 2 weeks ago. You know when you're riding and things just don't click and for whatever reason you feel like a fish out of water and can't ride! That was me at the Zofka Ridge Cross Country! It started so well though! I took off the start line in first place and had the holeshot....that is until the first corner about 15 f... Continue reading...

First race of the fall was a success! The Big Rooster Cross Country is typically held every labour day long weekend and always draws a steady crowd of dedicated racers and spectators alike. This year the organizers decided it was time to cater a little more towards the spectators by including a permanent endurocross track! To ensure the track would offer spectator friendly carnage giant logs were trucked up to the site and fashioned into anything from single log hops to pyramids to leng... Continue reading...

Well, it's officially been 4 weeks since my carpal tunnel surgery, and I'm about to loose my mind from a lack of two wheeled time. In another 2 weeks I will be allowed (according to doctors) to throw a leg over a bike again, and then gradually work my way back up to my usual ride time. Little Orange Forest Creature has been taunting me from across my livingroom in my bike room, so I stare and day dream, and wait, and wait, and wait! I still can't push/pull/lift more than 5 to 10 pounds so ... Continue reading...
