Apologies for the lack of updates lately, race season is in full swing and life is hectic!  Going all the way back to the May long weekend the well known “Squealin’ Pig Hare Scrambles” race went off without a hitch.  Just as the sun was setting Saturday night, I lined up on L.R.F.C with my borrowed head lamp on the intermediate line for the start of what I was expecting to be a long and tiring night race!  The start and majority of the first lap went smooth and uneventful, up until about ¾ of the way through the course.  My bike’s headlight died, and despite my best efforts I couldn’t get it working again.  It wasn’t completely dark yet, so I decided to do as many laps as I could before I was unable to see.  I finished 2 laps barely, and then waited for my time to run out.  It was disappointing to see my fellow competitors racing by while I waited in the dark, but I suppose that’s just how racing goes at times!  The next day I lined up once again on the intermediate line for the day race.  Quite a few intermediates showed for the race and the starting line seemed to go on forever!  I didn’t get the greatest start, but started picking people off through the grass track right off the line and made my way into the top 5 before we headed for the endurocross track and the deep woods trails.  The race went really well and with a stacked class and many battles back and forth I ended up finishing in a respectable 5th place.  5th wasn’t what I was hoping for, I was aiming towards a podium finish, but just the same I was glad to come away with a decent finish and a bike and body that were still in one piece!
