The beginning of April marked the start of the 2010 racing season!  Last fall I bought a 96 Beta 250 trials bike and decieded to enter my first ever trials event on April 3rd.  The event was called the Adrian Brown Memorial and was held in Vernon, BC.  I entered the Junior class not knowing what to expect.  The event was extremely laid back and enjoyable. I learned the hard way that you loose points if your tire goes over or on a ribbon, so after making a mental note of that, I got 2nd place in the Junior class!  I will certainly be keeping a look out for any more trials events hosted by Okanagan trials guru Dave "Outlaw" Rhodes!

April 4th became the official start of my racing season with the "Big Kahuna" race in Kamloops BC.  In years past I've always avoided this race, seems how it's about 95% motocross track with absolutely nothing technical or challenging.  I've always enjoyed tight technical trails in the woods as opposed to wide open dusty tracks, but I figured the moto experience would be beneficial to me seems how the ISDE at the end of the year will be comprised of some moto and faster sections.  I entered the ladies class after being told that there were some pretty fast moto girls there, and I was looking forward to finding out just how fast they were!  The dust bowl errupted just before noon and after an hour and a half battling through 8 laps it was over!  One of Alberta's top motocross girls took 1st place, while local moto/enduro girl Chantelle took 2nd.  I was excited to end up in 3rd place despite my lack of moto skills and I feel like I learned a lot!  Looking back at the results, there was a mere 33 seconds between 1st and 3rd place!!!  A success in my books!  We all did well that day with boyfriend Stephen Shannon placing 13th in expert and brother Malcolm Hett 10th in the Pro class.  All good finishes considering how out of our elements we all were!  Next race on the list....Desert 100 Washington!
