Still Waiting....

August 10, 2010
Well, it's officially been 4 weeks since my carpal tunnel surgery, and I'm about to loose my mind from a lack of two wheeled time.  In another 2 weeks I will be allowed (according to doctors) to throw a leg over a bike again, and then gradually work my way back up to my usual ride time.  Little Orange Forest Creature has been taunting me from across my livingroom in my bike room, so I stare and day dream, and wait, and wait, and wait!  I still can't push/pull/lift more than 5 to 10 pounds so even wrenching on my bike just for fun is risky business.  Feeling the ISDE crunch time sneak up makes me want to be practicing tire changes and taking apart top ends and clutches but making a mistake and  hitting my wrist scares me enough to keep me day dreaming at the moment.  Working out in the form of hiking has helped to ease the frustration, but I can recognize the signs now that tell me I'm on my way to a major lack of dirt bike mental break down!  Every time I get a whiff of pre-mix exhaust not so distant memories remind me that it will all be worth it when I'm cruising through the woods with nothing on my mind but the trail in front of me.

Round 2 - Canadian Enduro Championship

July 23, 2010
Round two of the Canadian Enduro Championships was held in Penticton BC up at Apex Ski Resort.  I lost the majority of my rear brakes on day one in Alberta and was waiting on a rear brake master cyclinder rebuild kit during the week between Round 1 and Round 2.  Friday I was finally able to get my hands on the kit after a Greyhound Bus incident and stayed up until just before midnight bleeding my brakes with the new kit installed.  I gave up around midnight and I still had no rear brakes!  At...

Round 1 - Candian Enduro Championship

July 7, 2010
After a hectic week of preparations, we headed out to Coleman Alberta for round 1 of the Canadian Enduro Championships!  After sweeping the series in the ladies class last year, and committing to the ISDE this year, I decided to step it up a notch and bash bars with the guys in the "A" class!  The "A" class races on the same time schedule as the Pro class and does the same amount of laps.  In Alberta this would mean 3 laps of a loop approximately 47 km's in length.  If 6 1/2 hours of racing u...

The Piston Run

July 7, 2010
Being severely behind in updating the recent races I'm going to go back to June 20th, the 61st annual Piston Run race in Chilliwack BC.  The Piston Run has a reputation for being a tight, technical, gnarly race, and this year was no different.  Organizers and BC off-road legends Wally Klammer and Chris Carey put their evil minds together and delivered a race that would have people talking for years to come!  I entered the Intermediate class and had hopes of a podium finish to continue my patt...

The Squealin' Pig Cross Scrambles (or something!)

Sunday morning was accompanied by sore muscles and muddy bikes from the previous night's race.  The weather decided to put a damper on the morning by raining down for the first few hours of race day, but like magic the skies parted and the sun came out to make for a beautiful race start.  I lined up in the Intermediate class and was treated to a "straddle the front fender" start.  Not as easy as you'd think after racing 70km's until close to mi...

"The Night Pig"

Known for it's professionally cut trails and glow in the dark reflective arrows, "The Night Pig" race attracts all sorts of riders from near and far.  Looking around the riders' meeting is like looking around at a field full of aliens.  Cyclops lights, brightly colored gear, and bikes strewn with glow sticks makes for quite a sight!  At 8:00 pm sharp we all set out to try to familiarize ourselves with the 10km course before total darkenss set in.  I had an excellent start and t...

May 20, 2010

Sunday May 16th we headed up to Salmon Arm for the Rock Hound Hare Scrambles, hosted by the Okangan Hare Scrables Series.  I raced this same race last year, and really enjoyed it.  This year however was destined to be different!  After seeing the dust storm that was kicked up by the "B" classes racing that morning, I was curious to see how the "A" class races would go that afternoon.  I entered the Intermediate class, and lined up on my starting line around 1:00 pm.  With the sounding of an a...

April 3rd & 4th, 2010

April 17, 2010
The beginning of April marked the start of the 2010 racing season!  Last fall I bought a 96 Beta 250 trials bike and decieded to enter my first ever trials event on April 3rd.  The event was called the Adrian Brown Memorial and was held in Vernon, BC.  I entered the Junior class not knowing what to expect.  The event was extremely laid back and enjoyable. I learned the hard way that you loose points if your tire goes over or on a ribbon, so after making a mental note of that, I got 2nd place ...

March 21st 2010

March 22, 2010
The Orofino motorcycle club in Idaho puts on a spectacular endurocross every year.  I was lucky enough to race the event in 2009, and after throttle cable problems in the main event, I vowed to return in 2010 for revenge on the challenging track!  Racing motorcycles is a costly affair, especially when your putting yourself through college and paying bills, so my dream of returning to Orofino in 2010 didn't look likely; that is until Clear Water Technical Group appeared!  They generously offer...
